We finally got our furniture delivery on the 9th...what a day that was. Two trucks, three guys. One guy helped the other unload everything into the driveway then drove off to get the other truck while the two guys hauled everything into the house at my direction. There's always mass chaos on move in day...you have to check off the numbers of the item to make sure everything is delivered, and the movers on the other end really made things difficult by using 3 different colors of stickers, one color of which was double rolled meaning there were 2 of the same number of that color plus the numbers of the other colors. Some things had one sticker, some had two, some had up to four and five and most had multiple colors. Chaos!
Of course, the movers tried to talk me out of checking off the numbers...um...yeah...NOT! *rolls eyes* like I just fell off the turnip truck....
Anyway...in the end it appears that almost everything was delivered...we're missing 2 items that we can't find in the mass of boxes yet, maybe they'll turn up, maybe not. We'll see I guess...
I've spent the last two days unpacking boxes and I don't feel like I've made a dent yet, but I got to sleep in my bed, and I got to eat my oatmeal out of a ceramic bowl that held up till I got to the last spoonfull so I'm happy. I even cooked a couple of times.
I love love love my house. We're at the top of a "hill" but halfway down a mountain...sort of. My patio, family room, living room, kitchen, bedroom, office and craft room over look the city of SD and the canyon below my house and on clear days we have an ocean view. The "front" side of the house, which really just includes the boys' bedrooms has windows facing the mountains.
I am almost exactly (according to Lor Lor) 6 miles from the border of Mexico, and about 20ish minutes from downtown San Diego. I've driven the expressways a couple of times so far...not bad..easier than DC was! I'm not afraid to drive anywhere here, but most things are pretty close to my house. One road has just about everything I could possibly need....
My yard is awsome...I have an apple tree, and a peach tree and some kind of nut tree and a couple other fruit trees I have no idea what for the most part I call them snail trees and I won't be eating anything off them for ahwile LOL... I have two little scrubby pine trees on the side which I dearly love and will blog about later. I have hibiscus, and something that appears to be trumpet vine, and some palms. The house came with a "gardener" which really amounts to a man who shows up whenever he feels like it (about once every two weeks) and mows down everything in site. I'm going to have to keep an eye on him when I start planting flowers or tomatoe's because he cut down some things in the landscaped area that I don't think he was supposed to. I'm going to be selling my beloved riding tractor mower because we have no use for it for at least 2 years...makes me kinda sad, I loved that old gal...
Our house also came with access to 3 pools and a hot tub which we've made use of only once so far. It was nice, but we've just been too busy so far to really make use.
It's funny, but I rarely ever called the house in Virginia "home" it was always "lets go back to the house" or "I'm at the house" etc, but halfway to CA before we even saw this place we were referring to it as "home" ..."we'll be home in two days" "we're finally home" etc. I love it here. I never want to leave. It pretty much sucks to know we only have 2 years, but who knows what can happen right?
I'm readjusting to "boat life" as well....that's another story altogether....and I'm looking into some volunteer opportunities at the nature center near my home. Not sure it's for me...we'll see.
I saw a hummingbird yesterday.
and now my thoughts have turned random again...a lot on my mind lately. Just thought I'd check in with an update.

Pictures... We need PICTURES!!!
:-)
How cool. I can't wait to see the photos.
Go surfing for me, okay?
Your house sounds better than mine. Can I move in with you? I could be your live-in cook.
Glad you're getting settled!
